Why Nereids Is Different
We’re not a swim school. We’re a team of teachers who bring safety, joy, and confidence into the water — one lesson at a time.
The reason is personal. Our founder nearly drowned as a 4 year old child, and that moment shaped the mission of Nereids: to give every family the skills and confidence that prevent such tragedies.
Parents choose Nereids because we combine professional skill with human care. Every lesson is private, personal, and built on trust. For our teachers, this means meaningful work, students who truly value you, and a culture that honours your role.
Joining Nereids means more than just teaching swimming. It means becoming part of a mission:
- To guide children and adults with patience and respect
- To give families peace of mind through real water safety
- To grow as both a teacher and a person, supported by our team
As a child safe organisation, we are committed to being a safe environment for children and young people.

Life as a Nereids Teacher
Being part of Nereids means more than teaching swimming — it’s about shaping confidence and safety in the water, while living a lifestyle that works for you.
A typical week could look like this:
- Teaching after-school lessons for kids who can’t wait to see you again
- Running a weekend session in a family’s backyard pool, helping a parent finally feel safe in deep water
- Setting your own schedule so you can balance uni, work, or family life
- Feeling supported by a team that shares tips, guidance, and celebrates your wins
During the summer holidays (Dec–Jan), demand is at its peak. Families book intensive programs, and many of our teachers choose to work mornings through evenings — building strong progress for students and earning their highest income of the year.
At Nereids, you’ll never feel like “just another casual.” Our teachers are trusted, respected, and often stay with us for years because of the impact they create and the freedom they enjoy.

Your Questions, Answered
Q: Do you provide me with clients?
A: Yes! We handle all the marketing and admin, so you can focus on teaching. We’ll match you with clients based on your availability, location, and skills.
Q: Do you provide materials and equipment?
A: Yes. We supply the equipment — you simply pay a refundable bond, returned at the end of your employment.
Q: How many hours can I work?
A: That depends on your availability, location, and how far you’re willing to travel. Some teachers only pick up a few clients, while others build a full schedule. During the summer holidays (Dec–Jan), many teachers choose to work intensives from morning till night.
Q: Will I receive training and lesson plans?
A: Absolutely. You’ll receive specialised Nereids training and our structured lesson plan, so you always feel confident and supported.
Q: How long until I start teaching?
A: Once your checks and training are complete, you can start quickly. Some teachers begin within 2–4 weeks, depending on location and availability.
Q: What ages will I teach?
A: We teach students from 3 years old and up. You can let us know if you prefer certain age groups.
Q: How long are lessons?
A: Most lessons are 45, 60, or 90 minutes. Occasionally families request custom times, like 75 or 150 minutes.
Q: I have an overseas swimming certificate. Can I work with this?
A: Yes, it may be recognised via Swim Australia™ (fees apply). We’ll guide you on the process.
Q: How far do I need to travel?
A: That’s up to you. We aim to keep lessons close to your area, but more flexibility means more clients.
Q: Will I be employed or a contractor?
A: You’ll be employed — meaning you’re covered by our insurance and receive your superannuation guarantee.
Q: Do I need my own transport in order to join Nereids?
A: It helps a lot. Teachers with cars, scooters, or e-bikes can reach more clients in a day. Without transport, you can still work, but expect longer commutes and fewer bookings. Public transport works well in Inner Sydney, but it’s much harder outside that area.
Q: Is this only a summer job?
A: No — Nereids teaches year-round. Demand is highest from October to April, but indoor and heated home pools extend the season.
Q: How flexible is the schedule?
A: You control your availability. Consistency helps students progress, so we ask teachers to give at least 3 weeks’ notice for holidays or major changes.
